My Bold Prediction: If you don’t choose to Play Big, you will die broke.
It is not too late to invest in your brighter future.
Are you and your company positioned for greatness? The value you bring to the world determines how bright your future will be. The old system has been replaced by something different. Some people call this type of shifting a paradigm shift. Either way, a revolution is happening all around you. Have you noticed the effects yet?
Have you heard about the Millennial Revolution? If you’re a Millennial you most certainly have. If you’re not familiar with the Millennial Revolution, let me introduce you.
This year the last of the Boomers is turning 50.
The Baby Boomers are wrapping up their impact on the workforce. The youngest of the Boomers turns 50 this year. Overall, they’ve had a pretty good run. Building machines. Assembly lines. Digging coal. Family Farms. Route 66.
Then, we woke up and discovered something changed. We stopped digging most of our coal. Fewer people were needed on assembly lines because machines started building our machines…and it’s cheaper to do Industrial Age activities outside the United States. Small farms mostly disappeared.
The job and lifestyle we expected to invest our whole career in vaporized. Do you remember being told that you work for a “good company”? The expectation that your career would be with one company ended.
GenXers got to experience all of these changes too. The plan for GenXers was less rooted than what Boomers expected. Five years with one company was considered a pretty good run. The plan to hope from company to company in their climb of the corporate ladder…but the corporate ladder was still there to climb…at least for a while.
As Millennials enter the picture with completely different plans and expectations, the playing field is completely different. The earth shifted. Millennials are expecting to change “careers” 15-17 times during their working life. In other words, there really isn’t a career path with any one company. Our workforce is quickly moving toward 40% and more (and growing quickly) who are completely contract or consultant based. The company no longer wants to hire long-term full-time employees.
Yearning to make a difference
Remember that yearning you’ve had for years…the longing in your soul to make a difference? Knowing there is something bigger out there that you need to contribute to the world … was always in the back of your mind, but obligations kept getting in the way. You wanted to adjust your life to make that contribution, to Play Big, but those obligations and expectations kept you from investing your life in what you knew you were made for. Settling for what others expected of you, it seemed easier to accept that growing feeling of numbness in your soul and you began to lose yourself.
Here’s the thing. Millennials don’t have the same baggage. Yearning to make a difference is one of their core values. They will not settle for “just a job” to get by and pay the bills. Settling for anything less than what they were made for would limit their contribution to the world.
Does this make sense to you?
Now here’s the question…
Who do you think will win in the competition for your next job? Someone who is passionate about being there…the Millennial who has the core value of contributing something to the world? Or, someone who just needs a job to bring in a paycheck…who doesn’t invest in their personal development and isn’t particularly passionate…they, perhaps you, haven’t gotten rid of that numb feeling and don’t remember who they are?
Do you understand the impact of that question?
If you are not passionate about your work, it shows. If your life purpose and core values are not lived out in what you do, you have no chance against someone who is unwilling to settle for anything less.
Unless you are living on purpose, investing in you, doing what you were created to do, you will be left in the dust hoping you can collect social security soon so you can eat.
It is not too late to Invest In You!

You are good enough, you are strong enough, you are beautiful enough and you are smart enough. You ARE enough to do what you were created to do. I believe in you. I strongly believe that you and I were created for a special purpose and we are here for a very special reason.
